Winter Hats and How To Wear Them
Posted by admin in Beauty and Style Sunday, 22 November 2009 10:32 No Comments
December is almost here! This time of year is my favorite as I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE winter clothes and accessories!
1) Knitted Beret (I ADORE these!):
Got a short hairstyle to keep under wraps? Want to hide a hideous haircut? Then a knitted beret is the way to go for you. This is a super cute look for any hair length, but works best with short or tucked away hair.

2) Beanies:
The fitted beanie/skull cap look is best suited for long, sleek hair so proceed with caution. Go for a monotone color palette to add a chic edge to this punky accessory.

3) Knitted Newsboy:
The knitted newsboy cap is the undisputed winner of winter hat looks. Fun and chic at the same time, this look works with fancy trenches and simple sweaters. With a sleek pony tale, this look tops off any outfit for instant style.

Redhead Makeup Tips

MAKEUP TIPS FOR REDHEADS: EYES
| Use Green Eye Products
“When selecting the right shades of eye shadows and eyeliners for redheads, I find most earth tones look good – green is an exceptionally good color for them. The shades in the Clinique portfolio that I recommend are: Clinique Color Surge Eye Shadow in Cider, Gold Rush, Rum Spice, Lucky Penny, Color Surge Eye Shadow Duo in Copper Canyon, and Coffee Shop. For eyeliners, try Clinique Quickliner for Eyes in Moss or True Khaki, or if she prefers a creamier application, Cream Shaper for Eyes in Egyptian or Brown Sugar. To create the perfect lash look, if she is very fair and has blonde lashes I recommend a brown mascara (not black or black/brown) so her makeup doesn’t look too harsh. When filling in the brows, be careful not to go too dark. You want to use a soft wheat or auburn colored liner.” - Robyn Tamura |
Stay Away from Black
“Eye makeup gives you more variety in the color wheel because you can use browns, taupes, violets, moss greens, light pinks, hazels, golds and bronzes. Brown or red-brown mascara will compliment your eyes and eyeliners in brown; beige and hazel (not green) will also look great. Stay away from black mascara or liner, which can look too harsh. A dark blond brow pencil or shadow will be perfect for brows too.” - Christina Kazadzis

| Sheer-Based Foundation
“Using a sheer-based foundation in beige colors is required. Stay away from pink toned foundations, which can make you look ruddy or too pink. A light colored bronzer can also be used in lieu of foundation if your skin doesn’t require coverage but you just want to add a little color all over. A green-based concealer (or green color corrector stick) is perfect for blemishes and under-eye darkness, so be sure to blend over it with some foundation to achieve the perfect coverage.” - Christina Kazadzis |
| Coral & Peach Blush
“Blush colors should be in the coral and peach family of colors if you are fair, while the darker redheads can also use a raisin colored blush as well. You’d want to go lighter in shade for fairer skin and darker for medium skin tones.” - Christina Kazadzis |

| Coral, Peach, & Pink Toned Lipsticks
“All shades of redheads can use lipstick and lip liners that are coral, peach and pink tones, and even a raisin colored lipstick that is sheer and not matte will look beautiful. For those who love the look of red lipstick, find reds that are orange-based rather than blue-based and find a color that suits your own shade of red. Tinted lip-glosses in those shades will look wonderful too.”- Christina Kazadzis Dark Red Lipsticks “I would avoid a bright fuchsia or bright pink on a redhead. Dark red usually looks good, but it should be tried on for the right undertone. If her skin has a pinky undertone, a lipstick with a blue-red undertone might be best, while someone with a yellow undertone might want to try red-orange or red-brown shades.” - Robyn Tamura |
Now all you redheads out there are armed with advice and color choices you need to bring out your inner glow. Makeup for redheads doesn’t have to be a mystery anymore. Be sure to check department store websites to find out when national makeup artists will be coming to town, and why not sign yourself up a for a little makeover? It’s a nice treat for you and there is nothing like a little one-on-one time with a makeup expert to put some spring in your step and a smile on your face!
Scar Removal

Women will be women. Being a woman, I was bothered by a scar on my forehead, so I have elected to do something about it. My dermatologist excised the scar yesterday, and has stitched the incision. Even with the one stitch being visible right now, the scar looks better. After the incision has had about a month to heal, he will be treating it with Fraxel laser surgery. His plan is to treat it up to four times with one month in between each treatment, but he is hopeful that only one treatment will be necessary. I will post after the fraxel laser treatment(s) to update everyone on the outcome. If you have any experiences with the fraxel treatments, feel free to share them!
Below is some information on the Fraxel laser treatment:
The innovative Fraxel Laser has been specially designed to manipulate minute volumes of target tissue with the intention of altering the appearance of aging and sun-damaged skin over time. Tiny microscopic wounds on the body result in a healing process that responds to the coagulation of collagen fibers in our skin
The difference will be dramatic, even after the first treatment. Your skin will become suppler, softer, smoother, and feel fresh. Wrinkles and fine lines will noticeably fade as will uneven coloring and brown spots caused by aging and extended sun exposure. In fact, Fraxel is now considered as the treatment of choice for teens with acne scarring and is also effective to clear up surgical scarring.
The system has been known to be suited for all skin types with the entire process taking under 2 hours to complete under sedation. The treatment will be performed with the use of a lipid base anesthetic ointment and the blue tint and anesthetic is washed off immediately after treatment. Many patients report a prickling sensation during the procedure but are able to tolerate it well. Also, Fraxel is a treatment with minimal downtime and results have been comparable to full resurfacing techniques.
There may be mild swelling that should subside within a day or so and patients generally return to normal activities within that same time period as the redness usually fades over several days. It has been shown by clinical studies that 3-5 treatments spaced out between 2 to 4 weeks apart may produce a gradual remodeling of dermal matrix components until complete healing occurs. At that point the “good” material that contains collagen and elastin replaces the old epidermal and dermal tissue. Overall, within three months the effects are said to make a dramatic improvement.
It is important that you discuss with your surgeon if this is the correct path of action for you, have realistic expectations and work with your physician to make an informed decision.
Flaunt Your Naturally Curly Hair

In the perfect-curl world of hairstylist Lorraine Massey, a blow-dryer is referred to as a blow-fryer. And a curly-haired woman who uses one to take the curl out of her hair is called a straight jacket. “A straight-jacket is somebody who is afraid of her own natural look,” says Massey, owner of Devachan Salon. “She’s afraid of her curls. She’s the one at the beach who is miserable because the humidity is curling her straightened hair. She’s not spontaneous; she’s in denial. She’s not free.” And, Massey says, the woman’s hair is fried.
Think of Nicole Kidman, Massey says. “She has tiny broken hairs around her face from straightening her hair. Her hair is so decayed now, even her naturally curly hair would need time to look better.” Making damaged naturally curly hair look better is Massey’s claim to fame. People seeking healthy shiny bouncy curls — and even those with straight hair — travel from all over to her Manhattan salon.
“All straight-jackets eventually see the damage. What I do is teach women to surrender to their naturally curly hair. Get naked with yourself.” Massey has created a line of Devachan products that contain natural ingredients, but transitioning from blow-fried to natural hair is possible without them. “The same way you take care of an expensive wool sweater,” she says, “take care of your hair. Take care of it gently.” Here’s how:

WebMD.com has a collection of skin and beauty videos. One that I found interesting was the one on choosing the right laser treatment. If you’re considering having a laser procedure, or know someone who is interested you should view some of the videos.
